Perl Scripts (1993)

Perl was a high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language. Oscar Nierstrasz at the University of Geneva wrote a series of Perl scripts that would periodically mirror these pages and rewrite them into a standard format which formed the basis for W3Catalog.

Perl was originally developed by Larry Wall in 1987 as a general-purpose Unix scripting language to make report processing easier.
